Digital Equity is a Civil Rights Issue

A new federal assistance program will help families in need get connected to broadband internet service at home.

Only 71% of Black Families have broadband internet service at home

Only 69% of Black families have a home computer

Only 50% of Black workers say they have proficient or advanced digital skills

Digital Equity Starts with Internet + A Computer + Digital Skills

Digital equity is critical to our advancement. It opens the door to educational and economic opportunities, health care services, family and church connections, and civic engagement and activism.

Achieving digital equity begins with having a high-speed broadband internet connection. But it also requires devices like laptops, tablets and phones connected to the internet along with the digital skills people need to take full advantage of opportunities online.

Every member of our community should share in these opportunities.
