The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the urgent need for reliable and affordable internet access. As a pivotal part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) has been instrumental, allowing over 22 million American households to access high-speed internet at affordable prices. Although the ACP represents a significant stride towards digital equity, its continuation is in jeopardy as the program is set to end when the allocated funds run out. More than 8 million homes and businesses lack access to a reliable broadband connection. It is crucial to maintain and expand the ACP, not only to sustain the connectivity of those already served but to extend this lifeline to millions more who still need access.

BC4DE is dedicated to advocating for digital equity and recently we have taken a number of steps to support this mission:

  1. MMTC released a press statement in support of the Affordable Connectivity Program Extension Act

  2. Joined a coalition of organizations by signing a Congressional letter endorsing the Affordable Connectivity Program Extension Act of 2024

  3. Stands among over 400 supporters who applauded the introduction of the Bipartisan Affordable Connectivity Program Extension Act

Now, we need YOU to join us by signing our petition urging Congress to act NOW. Every voice counts. Let yours be heard today!

Petition:

I am writing to urge Congress to ensure the continuity of funding for the Affordable Connectivity Program. We are joining the call to support the bipartisan Affordable Connectivity Program Extension Act of 2024, which provides $7 billion in funding necessary to sustain the ACP, helping it to provide indispensable services to eligible households through December 2024. The ACP has already been a lifeline for more than 22 million Americans, providing affordable access to education, employment opportunities, online healthcare services, and our loved ones. The  development of permanent, sustainable funding measures for the ACP is essential because this program is not just a mere benefit, but a cornerstone for equitable access in an increasingly digital society in both urban and rural parts of our country. I call upon Congress to act swiftly to fund the Affordable Connectivity Program, taking a step towards closing the digital divide and ensuring Americans have access to the Internet for generations to come.

Your support for the ACP is pivotal in realizing the vision of a connected and equitable America and I hope that you will be a vocal champion to connect millions of Americans through the ACP.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
